As a result of that experience, HF spec'd the current Daytona stands to be nicer, with some additional gusseting and solid, continuous body plates.
That said, I wouldn't be surprised if both these and the Daytona stands came from the same supplier. They're still fundamentally the same, except for the enhancements on the Daytona stands.
When the Daytona stands are on sale $30, they are the obvious choice, with the better design spec, and the convenience of the network of HF stores.
If these were later found to be defective, and subject to a recall, how would Pro-Lift handle the process, in comparison? Not likely to be as convenient, since they have no stores.
Even now, HF is still accepting the recalled jacks and providing their owners credit.
Whether it's apparent or not, you're already trusting your life to Chinese products, including the electronic devices you use, the batteries that power them, the ingredients in the drugs you take, the food ingredients you consume, etc.
With so many of the supply chains originating from China, it would be very difficult, if not impossible to cut Chinese products out of a normal, everyday life, and it would certainly also come at a cost.
The quality of Chinese product runs the gamut. It's up to manufacturer to specify, and verify the level of quality, and consumers to follow through on their own.
With respect to jack stands, where do you find non-Chinese stands or jacks?
Almost all of that manufacturing has moved overseas, so brands like Snap-on, Lincoln, Norco, etc. all include foreign made products. The highly-reputed ESCO stands are also made in China.
US Jack can still claim to be fully domestic, but TBH, their designs don't necessarily look much better or any sturdier than the typical Chinese stand. Where their post body meets the legs has much less material, and the stability of the thin legs is highly dependent on the cross bracing between them to prevent them from splaying out.

The one axis depends entirely on the quality of the vertical weld seams not splitting and causing the legs to splay.

No issues to report after quite a bit of use and a few years.
My old Honda has been sitting on recalled HF stands since 2014, maybe I'll grab a set to swap them out for when I start working on it again lol.

Do people really trust their life with made in china jack stands?
Yes. Absolutely. How often do you hear of people dying from jack stand failure? Since most stuff like this is made in china, most people are using Chinese-made jack stands, and you're not hearing about people dying left and right using them. They're metal; not some plastic trinket or electronic device with cheap wiring. It's not hard to cheaply make something durable out of metal.

Much better buy than these ones here that have the same concern as the recalled Pittsburgh ones. Mine have been OK, but I guess I definitely won't be using them again especially with my new, bigger/heavier vehicle.
