Great price, just keep in mind this is for travel during a time when you'll have as little as 4 hours of daylight (sun rising around 11:30 a.m.and setting at 3:30 p.m. AND temperatures below freezing/likely harsh weather that makes a fair amount of the further-flung tourist sites inaccessible due to snow/ice.

Longer daylight hours in October; however, as mentioned, be prepared for blizzards. Do not cheap out and rent a non 4x4 vehicle, take my word on that. There is a story to that, just don't. Went late October one year and the Northern Lights were amazing.

Did you drive yourself out to spots to view the lights or did you go through a tour co? Looking at a trip in late October and not sure if I want to deal with driving in potential weather (especially going out for late-night viewing)

Pros: It's Iceland, and Iceland is beautiful.
Cons: It starts snowing in Iceland in October. The worst blizzards happen from December to February, which account for 50% of the selectable dates. Reykjavík is coastal, meaning more sleet and slushy weather.

Plus, if you're a history buff, know that many of the smaller interpretive sites close on Sept 30th.

Iceland Air has great prices and so does Play. What's experience does anyone have on both/either?
