I think the $16.99 is not POE!

Decent deal. But it seems we are all waiting on POE versions though.
I will also comment that I have a 4 port version and it saved my butt this past week. Cable test showed a bad cable, but it just so happened to go bad exactly the day I made changes to my firewall. I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out why I was getting exorbitant packet loss.

Just curious for the people waiting for the POE version to come down in price - what devices do you have (or plan to have) that will need it?

Unless you're making VLANS or QoS, unmanaged...

Not true. Qos will help a bit when playing games on PlayStation. Although if they have fast internet, the difference might not be significant. For the price, with less than $10 difference, managed switch is the way to go.

Why are you all looking for POE+? Interested to learn, because I don't own any devices that can use POE, and maybe I should.

Yes, it supports VLANs (including 802.1Q). However, unless they've changed things, the configuration pages are pretty convoluted and confusing.

Considering this has 8 ports, how many VLANS can I set up on this device? Is it work the investment or should I look for something else/better? I know my question doesnt provide too much context, but I am looking for information to even get started and hoping someone will provide pointers. Should I separate a network with smart device and have a separate one for laptops where I access sensitive information? Should I use 2 separate routers to separate those 2 networks?

Awesome. I have a TP-Link managed switch that took me weeks to get VLANs working properly on for the same reason. Retired that when the suspicions to Chinese back doors came to light. Now, I have Uqituiti. Click, click, click--VLAN all set up.
