they're well reviewed as having some of the best bang for your buck paddles that come in a set. I bought them last spring like new from Amazon resale for just under $30. The paddles are pretty light, so I'm currently experimenting with lead tape perimeter weighting and will decide whether to pick up a new paddle or stick with these until the Spring.
If you're just looking for something so you can go out and play pick up with friends then yes these would be absolutely perfect for that and are at a good price point.
If you've played other racket sports or table tennis competitively in the past and are going to jump right into pickleball and think you'll be playing a ton and tournament and leagues and things, It might be worthwhile to spend $100 +/- To get a really nice paddle.
It's pretty overwhelming though because you can get essentially perfect identical knockoffs of professional level paddles from Alibaba/temu/Amazon for $30 -$50 (while the comparable brand name paddles are $150-$300.
because for the most part pickleball paddles cost very little to manufacture (materials etc), there are all of those copies available in addition to some decent low cost smaller brands.
The brand Friday has their original paddles 2 for either $89 or $99 depending on the color way, and is consistently recommended as the best deal for two excellent starter paddles.
