Historic low was actually 150 from Walmart. Sold out in seconds but a bunch of people got price matches by BB after multiple attempts.

I was able to get it through BB with that $150 Walmart price match. Amazing SSD. I paired it with an aftermarket heatsink and it now idles 8-12ยบ C lower.

Gen 5 drives are just hitting the market at affordable prices recently and have not been mass adopted yet.

I do agree about greedy companies though.

PCIe Gen 5 drives are just hitting the mainstream. I know they have been out a year, but we are starting to see more reasonable pricing on them (about 2x Gen 4 performance drives). PCIe Gen 6 - there is no talk about SSD at this point - just the spec - and at that point it will take time to make controllers, and then test the drives. SSD makers lost billions when the prices collapsed in 2023 - don't judge SSD pricing to that period of time. I bought one of these 4TB drives because I know that we won't see any lower for a while. Just like I jumped on DDR4 too.

are you actively doing anything that would require a gen 5 controller cost? to me gen 5 is nice if you have boards that run multiple gen 5x2 pcie lane m.2s (equivalent to gen 4x4 in terms of bandwidth). if youre there for the "speed", most usecases it would be negligible because random reads/writes havent really evolved and intel optanes still exceed in that regard to the regular user. its not like ssd controllers of different generations are the same price.

Thanks for posting this. Almost bought it and then found the newer (but Dram-less) SN7100 for $209.99 on Amazon and bought that instead.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm seeing 269.99 at Amazon.
