this seems like a good deal. Thoughts from the pros out there?

It's not. A 4070 is too old at this point.

Nvidia's mobile 5000 series is only a modest performance bump over the 4000 series. The mobile 4070 performs very similarly to the mobile 5060 you might find in similarly priced laptops, and is only a little slower than the 5070; Jarrod's tech youtube review places the mobile 5070 at ~7% faster than the 4070 in 1440p.

If you are comfortable with open box, this is a monster for 900. I shopped around for laptops or desktops in this price range, studying each deal for 6months recently, this is one of the best.

Normally for $900 on a laptop you'd get one level lower gphx card, and not this quality screen, and 16gb ram. But it is open box.

Only thing I can see to complain about is the lack of ports. 2 USB-A 3.2 ports and 1 USB-C 3.2 port. The Ryzen 300 series supports USB4 so it's a weird omission on MSI's part to have so few ports and not use USB4 for the C port.

Spec wise this laptop is a steal but make sure you check out the port placement before buying this laptop. All the primary ports are on the right side of the laptop with the power port being dead center on the right side. If you're right handed like I am and typically keep your mouse close to the laptop on the right side while gaming or working this is basically a deal breaker as the AC cable or any usb cables will be sticking out right into the area where I keep my mouse. Highly recommend getting a 90 degree USB-C adapter and either a USB-C hub to put all your plugins behind the laptop or a usb-a splitter for the left side of the laptop.

Spec wise, excellent, port wise terrible. All your primary ports are on the right side so you'll either need to be ok with having your mouse a decent distance from the laptop or look into getting a 90 degree adapter for your power charger (which granted they are cheap but it's just more stuff to deal with). if the port issues don't bother u, then likely an insanely good deal if you don't care about max gaming performance and are just looking for solid performance at an insane price.

The biggest difference will just be DLSS upscaling through AI and whatever if any driver side frame gen the 5k series has over the 4k series. Idk how big a performance gap that will have but I'm not holding my breath it's significant.

Almost 30% of thew reviews are one star. Probably the lowest reviewed laptop I have seen. Beware!
