Yes and no. Ps5- Minimum requirememt -Gen 4 ssd and 5500mb read speed. It should work with it being a gen 4 but its slower than listed minimum requirements. It wont be optimal.
I believe this was $100 at Adorama earlier today? So might not be that rare of a deal especially if you need EPP to get this price. Guess its a decent price if you need the storage right away
Performance: The 990 Pro offers superior read and write speeds (7,450 MB/s read / 6,900 MB/s write) compared to the 980 Pro (7,000 MB/s read / 5,100 MB/s write).
Controller & Efficiency: The 990 Pro utilizes a new controller for improved performance and up to 50% better efficiency per watt than the 980 Pro.
Best For: High-performance gaming, video editing, and users seeking the fastest available speeds.
Cost: Generally, the 990 Pro is a worthwhile investment for the performance gain, especially if the price difference is minimal.
Samsung 990 Evo vs. 980 Pro
Speed: The 990 Evo is a budget-oriented drive with lower speeds than the 980 Pro (5,000 MB/s read / 4,200 MB/s write).
PCIe Compatibility: Its main advantage is its ability to work with both PCIe 4.0 and PCIe 5.0 systems, though the PCIe 5.0 support is limited to two lanes.
Best For: Slim laptops, mini PCs, and users prioritizing low power consumption and future-proofing over raw speed.
DRAM-less: The 990 Evo is a DRAM-less drive and uses Host Memory Buffer (HMB) to access system RAM.
When to Choose Which
Choose the 990 Pro if: You want the best performance for demanding tasks and your system supports PCIe 4.0.
Choose the 980 Pro if: You find it at a significantly lower price than the 990 Pro, as it still offers excellent performance for most users.
Choose the 990 Evo if: You have a slim laptop or mini-PC and need the flexibility of PCIe 5.0 x2 compatibility and low power consumption.
