Was looking at another cheap label maker, also using a RFID chip to only work with their brand of labels. You can still use generic labels but they purposely lower the quality so it looks bad.

that is effectively what this unit does as well. It just prints with like 1/5th the thermal power so the label looks faded and unreadable.
