Whirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Last Iron Wolf drives I popped in my NAS made it sound like it was about to take off. If you value quiet, I'd look at the WD Red Pro.

So very true. I put ironwolfs in a nas and the client is calls it the hive cause it's always a-buzz with sound. My WDs make no such sounds. Normal or not, the Segate drives are noisy.

Oh really? What size were they? I saw some strange guide that said these were quieter and that WD drives clicked. Was thinking of doing an all ironwolf pro NAS. Hard to find noise comparison for NAS drives. I have an nvr-pro with 7 EXOS and they're not horrible noise wise. Was thinking these improved noise wise.
Just got two IronWolf pros, will test and then either veer towards or away.

Most WD Red Pro's also have some interesting buzzing/beeping-like sounds when they are doing automatic maintenance activities as well. After researching Toshiba, WD & Seagate and finally coming back to WD due to my track record with them, I'd conclude "all NAS drives are going to make more noise than a consumer 5400rpm drive."

They're not expecting you to install them in your desktop and expect silence, they're expecting them to be in an environment where stuff makes noise. Don't expect silence out of any brand.

This tier of drives is built for reliability and performance.

My research shows this much space could hold ~69,000 22 minute episodes of SD quality TV (Simpsons, for example).
