Some people will argue the enclosure is worth something, while this saves you the hassle of having to deal with shucking.
I know that's why I'm a bit worried, even more than the only 2 year warranty.
I would rather grab a used deal on an Enterprise drive for a 20+ GB for equivalent price and 5 y warranty. Unfortunately, we haven't seen many this year.
I think I'm going to pass for a few more months, I'm sure this deal will be back around BF.

Surprised this isn't getting more attention as it's basically the same price that people were buying the externals for and you're getting a barracuda drive either way.

After so many seagate failure for myself and at work over the last decade, I've become blind to any deals associated with their brand. They could be giving this shit away for free and I wouldn't care.

I jumped on these when the sale was $225 in May, so at $240 I'd say - wait for lower price.

Seagate says it's CMR, but some insist it means "not SMR" and actual tech is HAMR. True or not, I don't know.

You get what you pay for. A lot depends on model versus brand. And if you know the specific model, Blackblaze's list is a good guide. Surprisingly they have a lot of Seagates with great reliability. That list does exclude DOA models and models that do not pass their initialization tests, so it's not the full picture. Go by 2 things. The refurb market (ebay has been flooded by seagate refurbs for the last 3 years) and frequency of DOA reviews are a good indicator the model you are looking at is lacking quality control. A warranty means nothing. That's a promise most consumers never fullfill. It's not an indication of quality. If anything it's an indication of a quality control problem as many "good" manufacturers increase warranty windows to counter systemic quality control issues (more repairs they have to do, the better data they have on what is causing the issue, and they implement corrections on future iterations of the product).
So, with a grain of salt, I'm not recommending any alt brand or product for anyone here. Nor did I say there is a comparable cost HDD out there for this size. I only put down that I'm one (of presumably many) that give no Fs when a seagate is on sale because the seagate drives I have owned (more than 5) have all failed catastrophically, and I'd rather not have even a 1% increase in failure potential going forward. Probably why they just switched to making cheap ass high capacity drives. they have barely any customers left willing to bet on their crap.
