Google says Maltitol syrup is a sugar substitute and used as a laxative...so you've been warned.

Pulled from Wikipedia
"Like other sugar alcohols (with the possible exception of erythritol), maltitol has a laxative effect,[9] typically causing diarrhea at a daily consumption above about 90 g.[10] Doses of about 40 g may cause mild borborygmus (stomach and bowel sounds) and flatulence."
This has 11g x 4.5 servings = 49.5g sugar alcohol per bag
1/2 a bag is fine, full bag might cause gas, 2x bags or more might cause diarrhea. This is per day.
.....................................................
A standard 5oz bag is 500 cal and the 5oz sugar free is 450 cal so it is more useful for diabetics/pre-diabetics where the sugar alcohol doesn't really affect blood sugar levels. There is also a reduction in cavity risk (if you don't brush your teeth immediately after) since mouth bacteria can't break down the maltitol.

Are people trolling that say these are good? I'm not even being facetious, I tried them in the break room at work. They taste like those novelty wax lips you get around halloween. I ate half of one and genuinely can't understand how anyone could enjoy them lol.

I like the regular red vine originals (the ones that look like twizzlers) and oddly I like them because they're waxy and fake tasting lol It's nostalgic for sure, sort of like why people like Kraft macncheese from a box. It's not very good but 'taste' is enjoyable.

Side by side with real licorice, with the intent of having good flavor, nope red vines are not good nor have a good texture (like, if you ate this and then you ate a wallaby brand)

Here for this. And that was the first time I ever heard of red vines. I spent most of my life assuming Twizzler had a monopoly on the worst candy ever. I was proven wrong!

Unfortunately, Maltitol syrup has a glycemic index of 52, similar to table sugar at 60. It is not a good sugar substitute for diabetics.

It even has safety warning on the packages: "Excess consumption may have a laxative effect." I ordered sugar-free pudding packs which contain sucralose -- they had me running to the bathroom all day !!! Products containing erythritol also have the same effect on me ......
