You'll also see the compatibility rating of each game, indicating the kind of experience you can expect when playing. You can dynamically filter any view in your library by compatibility rating if you're looking for specific sorts of experiences.

MODS: the inventory for this is refreshing
Jokes aside, this is still the best value & OS among PC handhelds. Yes there are faster handhelds, but they are nowhere near as refined nor supported as a Steam Deck and all cost (some far) more via normal retail channels (not talking about FB marketplace / swap meets / craigslist / past deals that require time machines).
P.S. Plus it can emulate damn near anything you could ever want.
"Don't buy now because (insert rumors of Steam Deck 2 being jUsT ArOuNd tHe cOrNeR)"

Right. Other handhelds churn out a new model every year so it's hard to get stuff for discontinued models.
Also, I kind of get why they have different CPU versions of some of the other handhelds, but that also adds confusion regarding configs and community support, and what not. It isn't just which handheld you have but which CPU, version #, brand, OS, how much did you undervolt, etc. Worse than a desktop gaming rig…LOL. Value just updates all the Steam Decks (as of now) and for the most part it doesn't matter if you have a LCD from 2022 or a OLED from 2025, if it works on one, it will work on all.
Do they stream the games or install it on the device and use the hardware to play the game? Curious if I need to purchase ideally a 1TB version of the device.

It can support 4k, and actually, I've connected it to a thunderbolt laptop dock via USB-C that output to 2x 4K monitors just fine.
The demand of the title will determine what resolution the game will be played at. It will likely NOT play anything at 4K since we're talking about an AMD APU in a portable package.
You CAN stream games to the device, and in fact there is a pretty great community just for that- whether it be Steam Streaming on your local network or Moonlight/Sunshine where your "gaming PC" renders the game and displays it to your SD. There is also local streaming from an Xbox or Playstation; and I have personally streamed Xbox Gamepass games; I'm sure there's an equivalent PS Plus streaming option, too, but I haven't done it.
If you aren't streaming from one of the options above, you ARE installing the game on local storage. Although Valve offers a 64gb unit, the only people that are really buying those are folks that are immediately upgrading the internal SSD to something larger. 512gb, IMO, is the minimum size I'd suggest to go with, unless you plan on upgrading later, anyways. It does have a MicroSD slot to store games that don't require on system storage, and is a great option for portable emulation.
Although it's a portable game console, it's really better to think of it as a laptop with a smaller display, no keyboard and running Linux.

2. While the above works for a handheld screen, it generally means 800-1080p at 30-60fps. You wont be able to run highend games on a 4K TV.
3. The games can be installed locally or you can stream them from XBox, Gforce, etc
4. The best approach to memory on a steam deck is to buy one with lower storage and install a larger drive. They can also use SD cards. SanDisk Extreme and Samsung Pro Plus are good choices
My issue with some of the other handhelds is they either seem to abandon the old version when the shiny v2 is released and / or they all are missing something major / have a huge concession that the SD doesn't have. For example, the ROG Ally are great but have no touch pads, the Legion does have a touch pad and great screen but requires a small pickup to tote around. And neither appears to have any real community support behind them (comparatively vs the Steam Deck). Also, I kind of get why they have different CPU versions of some of the other handhelds, but that also adds confusion regarding configs and community support, and what not. The Xbox ROG Ally X is tremendously more ergonomic than the Steam Deck. Hands and thumbs would hurt with the Steam Deck.
