The 256gb 15 inch M4 was at 999 about 2 weeks back on bestbuy, costco. Considering that, it is fair price as these were launched in current year 2025.
Additionally, it is available for 1299 on Apple educational store and upto $179 discount if you buy few set of limited accessories like Airpod 4. You will kind of reach in the same ball park if you do not need accessory and if you are buying upfront cash.

However, things take a different turn if:
1. You have something to trade then Apple will give better trade in value for trading in Apple device.
2. If you have gift card to use like every few weeks, you could get 10% bonus from Bestbuy, target if you buy Apple gift card.

still deciding between this and 14in MacBook pro which is $100 more right now on Amazon. With prime visa probably just stick with Amazon. does the 6% slow shipper discount work on higher price items?

i would get 24gb, i checked the ram usage today and it was at 14gb. just for email, and one websurfing and some coding.
