I guess it's neat as a reusable single-serving "popcorn box", but kinda overpriced for what it is.

You can make microwave popcorn with any microwave-safe container with lid. Oil or no oil.

A bowl with plate on top works fine.

A paper bag works. Alton Brown uses one single staple to keep it shut, but it's unnecessary. Folding the bag over works.

I guess he used too.

I tried to find a proper link, but it seems the updated stuff no longer mentions it.

It was probably removed for liability, especially since it's unnecessary when you can just fold the bag over.

Whole bunch of old threads and forums mention it, some using the method successfully and some getting fires started in their microwaves.

You get 2 of them and they are silicone food safe. I might get them, one for me and my husband, they are cute
