Is this just a troll thread for you, or are you this dense? These are base models, the most bare minimum model you can buy (this is the 15", though they sell a 13" too). These are for people who don't get off on things like RAM and SSD numbers, hence "base model".
And what is it with apple haters constantly using this term "e-waste"? These machines will last longer and hold value better than any windows junk you can buy, but...e-waste.
Go port another ROM on XDA nerd.

Been waiting for this to return to $999. Last few days the price has been $1089 or even $1149 so this reduction to $999 is good especially when the Amazon c,c. cash back for prime members is included.

"Base model"? Is that what we're now calling something that's obsolete e-waste right out of the box? Apple should be embarrassed.

"E-waste" is an insane take. 256GB is not ideal but it's totally usable for someone who isn't a power user, or for someone who wants to use it as a second machine.
Not using cloud storage in 2025 is the real lol. Haven't needed a drive larger than 256gb for years
I have 512gb on my 2020 mbp, and haven't went over 200gb on it in 4 years, so I agree 256 is adequate, but when I got my m4 mbp, I went with 512gb. With use of the cloud, 256 is plenty.

the problem with this argument is everyone has different needs. Should my wife or others who have the 256gb option pay the extra money for more storage if they don't need it? She's had her m1 air since it came out, never gone higher than 120gb.
With cloud storage and network storage (my preferred method), having a high amount of storage on your portable device isn't for everyone.

Yeah Apple gives buyers the option to get a machine wtih 256gb for 1k, if they need more internal, they can buy more.
Folks need to make the "it's not adequate!" argument because their real argument is trite, they simply want to pay less money.

Typically I find it's people who are driven by spec sheets working on building their next "rig" and are PC gamers. Because to them 16gb of RAM is what you got back in 2010. To be fair, I upgraded my MBP in 2012 to have 16gb of RAM so 13 years later and it's the base config sounds off but in reality these machines run very efficiently with their lower configs to the point where most people don't even notice.
For example, my work m1 pro MBP 'only' has 16gb of RAM and yet in the 4 years i've owned it it has never given me any reason to wish I had more RAM. And i'm doing way more than just office and spreadsheets.
Basically, if you haven't used one of these machines, you have no clue just how well these chips run and how efficient they are.

RAM and storage are two different things. It doesn't matter how efficient Apple machines are--256GB of storage space is 256GB of storage space. It would probably cost Apple $10 to double that spec to something a bit less laughable, but no! That would cut into their "Let's sell them e-waste 'base configurations' and then gouge them on upgrades since everything is soldered down and they have no other choice but to upgrade through us!" business model. Steve Jobs is rolling in his grave.
