This one is interesting, but reviews seem to say it is very underpowered for the price and that HEOS is a terrible system for streaming music.

WiiM Amp is definitely a better way to go than this IMHO

Besides the limited amount of compatible products and their markup, I've found HEOS to be pretty solid for multi-system audio (e.g. a Sonos alternative.) I've had less issues with it than with casting audio via Google Home.

What benefit does this provide vs a full fledge receiver... almost at same price point and much better amplifier specs

The form factor is a big part of the value. This is a very slim stereo amp with lots of built in features. Streaming built in, phono preamp built in if you have a turntable, quality DAC built in that supports USB storage, optical, and coax inputs. That gives you a wide range of digital devices to connect to this. It is also an analog preamp if you have other analog devices. It also supports sub out which some stereo amps and receivers don't.

The use case has to be right. I want an amp for my office music setup and this ticks lots of right boxes. For a living room setup though, I don't know. I would think a traditional AV receiver with HDMI support would be better and you can find many in this price range. Those are big beasts though and not something I would want in the office.

This seems perfect for a pair of bookshelf speakers or headphones. I took a chance and ordered one from Amazon. I can always return it if I don't like it.

As mentioned above Wiim might be a better choice and is definitely a better value. My friend has a Wiim Amp and likes it but I wasn't a big fan of the look of it or the remote or Wiim app.

Yea, I bought a Denon receiver and Heos was disappointing. It's now back in it's box waiting to be sold and I replaced it with a Yamaha network receiver. MusicCast seems much better...(for me at least). If I just wanted a really good streaming receiver/amp, I'd go with Eversolo. The Yamaha offers me more inputs, which I need.

I just talked to a friend of mine that had this unit and he talked me into cancelling it. Said the Heos is a pain and the DAC is just okay. It is an older Sabre that doesn't measure as well as more modern DAC chips. He returned it after a couple of weeks. Funny enough he said he is considering the Yamaha.
