Is this a good deal? Should I wait closer to the holidays to see if it drops more? Or when M5 comes out, do previous gens usually drop a lot or will the M5 be closer to this price?

The screen quality of the Air is not as good, which matters if you edit photos or video. And the Air has no cooling fan so it will throttle speed sooner when it gets hot.

Depends on your use case, which is "better". I'm a software developer. Just got laid off (replaced by AI) and lost access to my work MB Pro M3 96GB laptop, which was a beast. I had to decide between a MB Air and Pro. I decided to try the air (15" M4 24GB RAM) and I'm blown away by how capable it is. There are some massive Android Apps that may strain this laptop, but I have yet to have any issues or need to switch to the MB Pro. I ended up getting a refurb on Amazon for 1250 and I'm very happy with it.

I think you need to consider screen size, RAM, SSD. But I wouldn't go for the pro over air unless you're doing some intensive stuff. And even then, it may not be necessary. The size of the Air compared to the Pro is very nice. It's like carrying around a big tablet, vs a heavy laptop.
