Some of the Harry Potter sets increase in value if unopened (and also many other sets) but overall a terrible idea if you are thinking about buying Legos for the purpose of making it an "investment". Just take your money and actually invest in the stock market if that's the case.

Is this a fun build or is it just a bunch of small pieces you're constantly digging through and fumbling around with? My 15/17 year olds love HP builds. Wondering about this for Christmas.

Looks like a bunch of small pieces. I think the price is still too high for what it is. Wait until it's 40% off.

Does something like this increase in value if you buy and hold for 10 years?
Or is it only the Star Wars stuff that does?

That's my advice with any collectible. I conveyed that to my nephew regarding comics. If you try to think of them as an investment, you are likely to be disappointed.

Bought this for my wife for Christmas last year and she really enjoyed the build. Lego's these days come packaged so well that even massive builds like my NASA Artemis rocket really aren't that overwhelming, regardless of size and piece count. I think a 15-17 year old who enjoys HP would definitely enjoy this build.

It used to be true, but now they mass produce all this stuff, because they know people go crazy for it, especially resellers. If you were going to put one up, maybe the larger sets like the $800+ dollar star wars Falcon they just had. These smaller ones may increase by 50 bucks in 5-7 years, but you can make far more than that by investing the money in an index fund

Completely agree with this. I have a $35 Minecraft set that is unopened from 2012 (Microworld). It is worth a whopping $15 more than what I bought it for back then.

This was a fun build. Lots of hidden elements and connections to story both in the pieces and instruction book.

18+ means they aren't meant to be playset but instead mainly a display piece. There aren't any play features or minifigures in the set and there are a lot more smaller pieced for more detail which may not be as useful creating your own builds. They aren't typically more complicated, it's just marketing.
