To 'trick' a computer into thinking it has a monitor connected. Necessary for some applications

A DisplayPort Headless Ghost Display Emulator, or "dummy plug,"
Plugs into a computer's DisplayPort to trick the operating system into detecting a connected display, even when no physical monitor is present.
This allows the computer's GPU to be fully enabled for tasks like high-resolution remote desktop access, video rendering, and cryptocurrency mining,
which would otherwise be disabled or limited.

Some of us repurpose our old desktop computers as servers, for example to run Plex, or backup the data locally. Some desktop computer models do not boot unless they detect an attached monitor (and oftentimes attached keyboard as well). While many computers have an option in BIOS settings to disable this requirement, some do not. This can be a problem if you just want to put a computer on the shelf to store backups. Every time your newly configured server reboots, e. g. after installing updates, it will hang and require manual intervention. These Display port devices, when plugged in, trick the computer into thinking that there is a monitor attached, satisfying this requirement.
