These are good beginner machines, that can make decent espresso if you learn how to use them. Lots of after market parts are available for them, including unpressurized baskets and steel steamer nozzles. There are also mod guides to add temperature control to them. Maintaining them involves running descaler solution through them every 6 months or so.
I experimented a lot with grind levels and baskets and such on these, until I gave up and now just get ESE pods for them on Amazon. It ends up being 20c a cup, and the pods are sealed fresh and ready to use no mess, no fuss, no cleanup. Lavazza is decent as are several other Italian brands, and even Bonnet, the US brand. Illy is considered fancy all arabica, and priced accordingly.

I remember paying something like $75-90, max $100 for the last one. An MSRP of $200 and a 'deal' price of $120 is only indicative of the 'great' times we are living.
