I can get open box excellent to ship for $1812 which is a great deal!

You won't find these specs for less.

I have this machine and my only complaint is that the screen is too reflective.

$1000 off for an "excellent" graded open box. I wonder how nasty the "fair" graded one would be?

oh man, this is tempting. First time buyer of an open box, what are my negatives of getting an "excellent" Omen? I travel alot and wanted to possibly get a drop and spills Warranty. Should I get a Geek Squad or will I be able to get one from HP?

Thank you

The only time I have issue with open box fair grade is when they package it with a demo model.

Other than that, the laptops have been look like name. Fair is missing the charge brick.

this is tempting. anyone know what wattage this laptop has for the 5080 and general build quality compared to a Lenovo legion pro 5/7?

edit: from what I'm reading this laptop is full wattage at 175w. Just bought one coming from a gen 6 legion 7 I will see what I think of build quality

The TGP goes up to 175 watts, which is fully powered. I have had extremely good gaming performance (virtually comparable to a desktop RTX 5070). The build quality is just fine, although I cannot compare it directly to the Legion. Here is a good video though comparing it to the Legion Pro 7i.

No Thunderbolt 5 FYI. Good price for those that don't need it

Excellent are usually that, excellent. People who bought it, maybe tried it out for an hour, then returned it. If you're that worried, add the Best Buy Plus membership. $50 and you get two months to try it out. I've regularly buy Excellent open box and almost always satisfied. It's the 'Good' or 'Fair' ones you need to worry about, but you can just return it you don't like it. 'Fair' usually have issues, like missing box, power supply, could be a demo floor unit, etc...I buy 'Fair' sometimes, it's fine if you don't mind the missing things or a few issues (like possibly a lot of battery cycles). Definitely stick to 'Excellent' if you want something close to new. I don't typically buy warranties on laptops, so don't know. But I've heard good things about the Geek Squad warranty. Either should be fine I suppose.

This is a good laptop, bought mine new with almost similar specs (1tb instead of 2tb, but the 1tb is a Gen 5 drive) for a few hundred more, but I got a really good deal and who knows when those deals would come back. If I didn't already have this laptop, I would jump on this.

Man, I am torn between this and the Lenovo 7i also at Best Buy for $1382. The Lenovo is $430 cheaper, and only difference is the 4070 compared to the 4080. And also the Lenovo has 1 TB hard drive compared to this having the 2 TB. Not sure the HP is worth the extra for those little things? If the MSRP are correct, then the HP clearly has the better discount. Need to decide this soon.

I just bought my Legion 7i a few weeks ago new during Labor Day sales for $1316 (student discount of $1462 - 10% R akuten cashback at the time). The 7i is an awesome machine. I don't game at all, but use it for my Master's coursework in computer science and video game design. The 5070 is plenty powerful enough for Unity 6 development. At first I was bummed with 2-3 hours battery life, but switching to Quiet mode and integrated graphics-only has bumped battery life up to 8-9 hours with light browsing, even on a 48" 4K external OLED TV.
The Omen Max is temping for sure for the 5080. Even I am tempted by that, not for gaming, but for the dual Nvidia encoders and decoders for video editing duty (5070 only has single nvenc and nvdec). However, the Omen Max weighs almost 6 pounds compared to 4.4 pounds for the svelte 7i -- that's a significant difference. I tried out a Zephyrus G14 recently with the 5070ti but it's a pricey machine that is cheapened by touchpad rattling. The keyboard and touchpad on the 7i are a joy to use, and the 7i simply looks amazing in glacier white. I can see a gamer wanting the 5080 on the Omen Max, but if you're more into video editing then the 7i has a better screen and color accuracy. Of course, you can always connect a better quality external display.

This Omen Max is a 5080 though. The 5080 laptop performs similarly to a 4090 laptop which is a substantial jump from the 4070.

I appreciate your input. Your points are very valid and I'm glad you found the laptop you are happy with.

This deal is going fast. I wanted to try the 5080 for video editing purposes but was rejected 3x. Ordered three times and each time it was cancelled within minutes. Oh well, wasn't meant to be and I'm happy with the deal I got on the Legion 7i. Hope others have better luck.

Thanks for all the comments. I did finally order it and got cash back. Also got good financing through PayPal. I thought I should buy fast before it sells out. All the other Best Buy deals recently there was nothing in stock close to me. Thanks
