I've used Amazon Resale for about ten years now, including buying a high percentage of lighting and plumbing fixtures during a new home build.
I have noticed an increasing percentage of scam returns such as someone returning their old Ecobee thermostat in the box their new one arrived in and someone returning a new wheelchair in the box belonging to a much nicer one. Amazon accepted both returns from me. I will most likely video record unboxing of expensive items from now on to protect myself. I'm not going to stop buying from Resale though as it still passes the cost benefit test.
I usually love these sales, this one in particular though is awful. Everything is marked way up and 15% off on everything I looked at. Will wait for the October day when hopefully more items are available and it's closer to the usual 30% off. Nice try Amazon.

Having same problem recently after using warehouse deals for years. I just ordered hue lights from resale . I received the hue box, but someone just returned a no-name white led light (inside the box (the light they replaced, obviously) and Amazon resold it. Amazon doesn't appear to be making even basic checks on returned items - this was so clearly not the product pictured on the outer box
The strategy is just to buy multiple of the same item and keep the best condition one
I bought one on amazon and it's still registered to the previous owner, had to return. Quite a despair.
So you cannot explain to Apple and cc them your receipt and re-register them?
They weren't locked like an iPhone with the security feature activated though, were they?
I've never owned any.

Is there any easy way to actually find anything that is actually marked down?
You can use Dealforager to find and filter by discount before applying the coupon, but that site doesn't show which items the coupon can be applied to. But sometimes you get lucky and find items that have a good discount and can stack the coupon.
Junk and be wary about returning too much to Amazon-- you may get your account flagged or even closed.
I've had bad luck with resale recently. I bought a DJI Action 5.... and someone had RESEALED a Action 4 in the box. It took almost a month and a half for Amazon to refund me, probably because it looked suspicious from their end.
Not worth even touching this stuff unless it's ultra-cheap.
I used to buy a lot from amazon warehouse. Just got an external monitor that clips on my laptop but it looked like it was run over with a huge gash in the box. Of course screen was cracked so back it goes...
Stay away from special edition video games in these sales. Usually you'll get just the disc or cartridge, maybe even a case, but all the extra goodies were kept and Amazon still gave the buyer a full refund. Amazon is totally cool with selling you just the game and pretending it still has all the goodies while pricing it as if it were complete.

Once I got a Macbook pro from the warehouse. Took it with me to Europe for work, was going to stay there for the season. Turned out it had a defect so I shipped it to Apple (in the US). They billed me $700ish. Talked to their manager, they were based out of upstate New York back then. Turned out the previous owner took out some important part and returned it to Amazon... Forgot what it was, but that was insane. Of course Amazon never figured that out and shipped it to me as Used - Like New.
Wasted hundreds of dollars on shipping alone, but most annoyingly, many hours with CS of Apple and Amazon. Worst purchase ever, I'd say
thx, I found an Amazon Resale UTG Recon Flex II bipod for my PCP .22 air rifle for $50. that's a score. It will be a welcomed addition to a Uramex Gauntlet 2 SL22
Be careful with Amazon resale. It's a coin flip if they bothered to test the item they're reselling. I'm fairly certain they just go by whatever the returning customer said, and try to resell the item as quickly as possible if they report it working.
Sometimes I strike gold, like getting a RTX 4080 for 25% off, while other times I'll receive tech devices that are DOA, or clearly broken by the person who sent them back to Amazon.
Make sure you extensively test any Amazon resale item so you can quickly return it if it's indeed trash.
Edit: Also, DO NOT contact the manufacturer if there's a problem. Just return it to Amazon. Even manufacturer warranties usually require you ship the item to them on your dime for repairs, while Amazon should take the defective item back for free. If you receive a DOA or broken item from Amazon, you're running a huge risk sending it to the manufacturer if there's clear consumer-caused damage, like the fraud the Macbook guy reported.

As long as you are satisfied with the condition, and that they are genuine, good deal.
