I'd think that because it read like you don't buy off-brand versions anymore, but it wasn't clear if you still used reputable ones - particularly since you mention indoors via app, which indicates and requires some variant of a device. The Weather Channel doesn't really have the ability to measure my indoor temp/humidity, you know?

Always worth re-reading what you wrote to see if someone could interpret it a different way.

I've tried a number of these 'off-brand' weather stations, and I end up returning them or giving them away. The accuracy of the indoor/outdoor temperatures or even the time is off. This even includes the LaCrosse ones which are the best of the bunch IMO, but still not very accurate. At least this one is pretty cheap, but I just save my money not buying them anymore.

Which would you, if any, recommend then?

I'm not sure why you would ask that when I said I wouldn't buy any of them anymore? I think the best I had was from La Crosse, but they cost more than $20. You can often find them on eBay, Amazon Whse etc. for much cheaper. I really just use the apps on my phone now when want weather information - outside or even indoors.

Any recommendation for a temperature sensor around this price range that is Wi-Fi.?

A bonus would be for the following situation: have a small portable room heater that has no smart technology. But is plugged in to a Smart plug for on/off time scheduling. Would love to integrate such sensor as a trigger to the scheduling using Amazon routines for example

If indoors, the newer generation echo dot has temperature sensor and could be incorporated with your plug if you utilize Amazon ecosystem. There will probably be deals with the October prime days (if you have prime). Plus it has all the other features, speaker etc if desired. Just a suggestion (but I realize a bit more than 20 but has a lot more functionality than just temp sensor)

I bought two different models(Smart Pro & LaCrosse), just over 4 yrs ago, and both have worked well. At the time, I figured if one didn't work correctly, I would send it back, and keep the other. But I've had good luck with both. I use one in front and the other out back. They are usually within 2 degrees of each other. But temps can vary because of wind, or other conditions or surroundings. Battery life has been on on both.

Govee has WiFi thermometers and smart plugs that can do this sort of thing together. But you will still be over $20 if you buy both items. If you can wait until bock Friday you'll probably get a good deal on a Govee combo or as someone else said an Echo Dot with any Alexa compatible smart plug.

If you're looking for a full featured unit, I'd suggest the Tempest. I switched to that in March and love that the solar panel keeps it charged. I no longer need to climb the tower mine is mounted on to change the batteries every few months.

An easier set up would be something like the INKBIRD thermostat plug. That's what I use at my cabin w a smaller space heater so the pipes don't freeze.

get a $20 ecowitt hub and you can just use an app on your phone

temp+humidity+barometer

and it uses real wifi not bluetooth

they make all the weather sensors for most other brands

adding example:

https://www.amazon.com/Ecowitt-Te...B0978XLG8T

but they have many many products including with display (more $$$)
