Buy these, but be careful of fakes!! Both types of packaging are clear retail packs. If you get a small paper box, it is fake. There are also a couple good comparison pictures in the Amazon reviews.

After a few years they do get gummy, the black ruberized plastic. If you double up with plugs be sure to turn the volume up. I only use these doubled up with big bore, otherwise I just use plugs.

Love these.

Great for hunting - have stereo mics vs some of the Walkers only have mono - these let you hear directionally.

As others say - when inside double up with plugs. Even at outside ranges I use plugs and turn volume all the way up.

I also spent $20 on a set of 2 gel pads on Amazon that have worked well.

Are these good for airplanes? Looking for something to protect my hearing because loud jet engines gave me tinnitus and I dont want it to worsen.

Think of them as regular ear muffs but they'll amplify normal voices (which, on a plan outside of placing a drink order, you don't need). If you go that route there are higher NRR ear muffs to use.

Personally I prefer noise cancelling headphones instead.

Agreed. Ever since Honeywell bought them, they suck. 3M Peltor Sport Tactical are much better overall, but I still double up hearpro when using stuff like this.
If you do go for these, I'd suggest also getting gel ear pads. They help the sound seal and comfort immensely.
