A better version of this (990 EVO Plus) was $60 brand new a couple days ago (https://slickdeals.net/f/18605092-samsung-1tb-990-evo-plus-pcie-5-0-x2-m-2-internal-ssd-59-99?p=179075836). Zero reason to buy used at this price.

I will think a 100 times buying refurbished or open box from best buy based on past experience. Bought and external drive 'open box - excellent' last month and luckily it was a store pickup and I was able to check the condition and refuse pickup in store and avoid restocking fee (if any). the drive looked like heavily used with scratches and missing original data cable and entire packaging. was just bubble wrapped with a USB-c insignia branded cable

Yeah, you have to be really careful, there are people that buy new ones, peel off the labels from the new ones, and replace them onto other old or even dead SSDs, then return them to Best Buy. Most Best Buys will never actually plug these in to verify the serial numbers match against what they were actually sold in an actual PC, they will just check the label and box serial numbers vs what they have on the original order receipt info. People were also doing this sort of thing with other devices too.

Unfortunately it's $70 now and also mentioned checking your accounts as Bestbuy added $10 certificates bringing it down to $40.

Which has been the opposite experience I've had with used/open box/refurbished items from Best Buy. I've purchased two "refurbished" drives from BB and are still going strong. Only a few hours of use and warranty registered on the Samsung website.

As with these things, YMMV.

If this deal was for 2TB at this price I'd jump on it for my extra PC I use for gaming when company is over.

I got lucky and found Samsung - Geek Squad Certified Refurbished 980 PRO 1TB Internal SSD PCIe Gen 4 x4 NVMe for $28. Plus had a free $10 certificate.

my evo 970 2tb had only about 20 write passes on it for about $80 so was good back then and still working 4 years later

100 times? Dude just return the purchase lmao. You need to stop overthinking shit. If its $50-100+ off new it may be worth it, I think $20 is the minimum for me as my store is 10 away. I've seen some of their open box stuff a few dollars off from new, like wtf lol

Yes 100 times because of the restocking fee ... although a lot of people on SD have reported that best buy does not charges restocking fee for open box stuff but while in store one of the reps told me that as per policy restocking fee applies to open box as well if it's returned because the customer changed mind. At least, it can be a hassle to discuss and argue with the store on this. So my opinion was just to stay away from this situation and it does not applies to you or anyone else. YMMV
