I'd like to hear some options. Because even with those Disney discount prices we can get double of days on Royal Caribbean for example (not the biggest ship but some of their other 200k+ ships). What make those more valuable than Royal? See people in Disney characters costumes? Please no angry answer just want honest know so maybe I can change my mind and try once.
i've been on both. once i've gone disney, i stayed disney (both with and without kids). it's not just about the characters.
RCI you get a lot more bang for the buck tho. For the price of 1 interior stateroom on DCL for a family of 4, I can two connecting rooms on RCI and it'll be a fraction of the price. With 2 connecting rooms I can bring up to 24 bottles of non-alcoholic beverages, I don't even need to pay for a drink package.
If you like cruises or have children I'd say try it once at least and see. If you're not impressed then stick with RCI for better value. Avoid Carnival unless you're going on a bachelor party

DCL doesn't nickel and dime you as hard, the entertainment is incredible, room service is included, very kid friendly if you have young children.

For our family, the DCL experience is much better than other lines. Basically we feel that you can get less for less elsewhere, but no one beats them for a quality family experience. The ships are drydocked for major overhaul more often than other lines so the areas always seem new and fresh, even on the older ships. There is an attention to detail in the cleaning and maintenance of the ships that is very high. The crew (cast members in Disney jargon) is required to have meaningful interactions with guests, for example if my daughter says hello to a CM they will stop and ask her where she is headed, if she did anything fun, etc. The entertainment is on a very high level with staging and performance values on par with a touring production. They have a fireworks night. They are exceptional with food allergies and disability accommodations. I find the food to be good to excellent, and the waitstaff are basically trained not to say no to any request. They will get you food from other venues, they will get you Indian food from the crew mess, they will cut your kids food so you can eat (I still find this kinda wierd). The childrens play areas are next level, look at videos. The CMs will find a way for your kid to have fun, even if they are either too shy or perhaps too energetic for group activities.
Downsides:
There is no casino and minimal smoking areas. Nightlife for adults is lame, the ship is basically asleep at 11pm. There will be lots of kids and even more "Disney Adults", these are people who like to relive fond childhood memories by enjoying character meets and Disney events that are intended for children without feeling awkward about it. It can feel like a low-key cult if you're not into "the magic" of the Disney parks and movies. Even for a luxury experience, the price is high. The "Disney Difference" is not the same level as it was pre-pandemic.
