Assuming this comes with a standard Apple warranty, it is a far better machine than a base M4 air with less ram and half the memory. The M4 processing advantage will diminish against the extra ram and doubled storage.

In general, processing power (M3 pro vs M3) is necessary for SPECIFIC tasks while extra ram (18gb vs 24gb) is needed for DAILY tasks.
Unless you have a certain software that requires the faster CPU/ GPU, you will benefit from the extra ram at a lower premium! FYI, browsers (and websites) are the worst offenders (RAM usage increases with every page) to your machine performance.

what's the general consensus on 13vs15? is 13 still doable enough from a productivity standpoint or do you need to step up to 15 to make using office suite manageable? primarily working with spreadsheets, data bases, etc

I got rid of my 13 for a 15. I miss my 13. Yes, the 15 has more screen real estate but it's also heavier. The 13 it turns out was perfect for me.

I would suggest you get the 13" and get a portable usb-c monitor! You will maintain the portability factor while having double the display estate.

I bought this from Costco with the same specs and it handles everything I throw at it. I debated switching to the M4, but I thought the extra RAM would be better for my use. Most people would probably be just as happy with 16GB, me included, but it was too good of a deal to pass up.
