Looks like EEs EXPO10 code is working on the $1199 sale of the 3800 OB bringing it down to $1080.
People have stated to add the code while viewing the cart then checkout for it to work.

For people waiting for the $1k deal to come back for this and just not happening like it use to.
I figured $80 more for open box might be worth it especially since people who made prior OB purchases from EE reported receiving new units.

If you're a Dirac fan this by far will be the least expensive unit of getting access to their new ART room correction(coming soon).
Not even the flagship PAC units(RZ70,LX805,DRX8.4)or Arcam units will have access!

Would it be expensive to do so, yes(around $1K).
If you have less than ideal layout/environment or less than ideal speaker/subwoofer placement options or can't/won't do room treatments(which gets costly quickly in its self) or you just want to avoid all the manual calibration process.
It might just be worth it to some people.
You can learn more about it here: https://www.dirac.com/live/dirac-...treatment/

The great thing is you have another great option(with Denon & Marantz) with A1EVO.
There are several iterations, where some would cost you $0, at most $20!
It may not do what ART offers but it does give you pretty much what Dirac Live & DLBC does!

For those that don't know, this also supports 11.4 processing with external amplification (and as it is a couple years old, is "only" HDMI 2.1 not 2.1b, but by the same token 2.2 was announced at CES 2025 .)

For those curious about what is different in 2.1 b or 2.2 see amongst other places https://www.tomsguide.com/tvs/hdm...ld-upgrade

I did the refurb deal for ~$1k and probably would have done this instead. No problems with my refurb though.

I got one of these a few years ago. It sounds great with KEF Q150s and a PB2000 Sub. The audyssey calibration works well. I went ahead and bought the app to get more fine grained control. It's a badly designed app but it did the job and allowed me to tweak things to my taste.

HONEY10 is the default code getting applied and EXPO10 appears to be invalid for me.

I'm curious as to why you think that (genuinely). Refurb was from Electronics Expo also.

If you look in prior post, people reported receiving new units. Shouldn't be a surprise, companies have done that for years. Keep in mind refurbs don't get original manufacturers warranty, OB do.

I had one, it's underpowered; you need external amps to run any decent speakers.

Decent speakers is a pretty broad statement. Depending on those decent speakers you can easily find that the 4800 won't be sufficient either. The power difference isn't that significant in practical use.Imo paying extra for internal power is not ideal. External power is always way better especially if you have decent speakers imo.

If want a 3 channel external amp to power the Klipsch RF-7III towers and RC-64III center, do you think the Emotiva BasX A3+ is worth the $350 price difference over the Monolith M3100X? Or would this x3800h be fine to power them all with internal amp?

There are many unknown factors to consider & ultimately it's subjective. If you bought the 3800, I suggest giving it a shot and see what you think. IF you feel more power is needed go with the less expensive one. Advantages of the A3+, you likely won't need to bother with power measurements & pay for it again(& again). The 3800 will let you disengage those 3 internal amps, in turn giving the rest them more efficiency!
