This Sam's Club membership deal is mainly useful for getting a discounted first year, with several paths that can work through ID.me categories like student, alumni, or healthcare. The offer has also been used to renew an expired membership, and some accounts show the discounted price only after switching to a new account or email. The main catch is that auto renewal appears to kick in at the regular rate unless canceled, and verification can fail or require extra ID.me steps. It is a handy signup discount, but not always a smooth one.
The $20 offer can allow renewal of an expired Sam's Club membership for some accounts.
ID.me verification can work successfully when the verification flow completes.
Selecting the Alumni category can work during the application flow for some university-related emails.
A workaround using a second Sam's Club account can help re-activate at the discounted rate each year.
Healthcare-category applications can be rejected even after healthcare email verification.
The discounted price may not apply automatically to accounts that already have an ID.me account.
The ID.me verification process can fail when the verification email never arrives.
The offer may only apply to the first year, with auto-renewal at the regular price unless canceled.

Don't have, don't want. A smart phone.
I do want sams but $10-15 is all I will pay.
And bring cash as my store got really strict on not allowing credit cards for the remaining amount. I even got a debit card for costco only.
If you have a friend that is a member have him buy you a few $25 cards.
----------
Also, you may be able to use the sams food court without a membership. Pharmacy you don't need one and same for alcohol in some states.
You can't try to sneak a purchase in at the pharmacy. I tried that and got shot down.
----------
Costco food court kiosk requires your gift card have enough to cover your order.
The store does not.
I also could not buy a car battery. They did not know how to do the warranty so they refused to sell it.
