Whoever owns this- do you recommend this one? I spend close to 10 hours a day at my desk.

What's a better alternative?

Full grain leather, but that's going to be pricey.

I can't comment on this chair but historically I've never had a problem with leather peeling from a Staples bought chair (four total). They are typically only "leather" on certain areas. I though am older now and need a quality chair at a realistic price. My SteelCase chair needs a new hydraulic and the online video is more complex than what I'm currently capable of doing. This, I'm currently using an old Staples chair with cushions. Any idea for a $400 max including tax budget? I won't buy open box or returns because they typically are not returnable.

More like 5 years in a dry climate.

I had a serta chair with fabric covering. It lasted years till I left it behind. After a while I might cover the lower part of the chair with a throw so I can wash it without using a furniture scrubber on the fabric chair (and cover up my wondergel/purple cushion cause all cushions go flat in 2 years and most cushions suck compared to real wondergel.) If I just cover up one of these flaky leather chairs it will still shed flakes an get embedded in the cover if fabric. You will also still feel the cracking areas.

I have a Serta bonded leather big and tall chair that i bought over 5 yrs ago from Walmart. use it for 4-6hrs every day and no pealing yet. Even on the arms that rub against my desk. Pealing probably depends on the run and/or supplier of the bonded leather.

I have a Serta Big and Tall bonded leather chair that I picked up 3 years ago. There have been 0 issues with the leather peeling/flaking. There have been other issues though. A year in, the leather on the arm rests started cracking as the padding flattened out. About 6 months after that, the hydraulic shock gave out and wont stay raised. Both were covered under warranty, but I think the shock is about to call it quits again. The stitching on the seat bottom and back is starting to fray as well. I do spend about 10 hours in this chair a day, so it does get some wear and tear.

These chairs are not made by Serta, so warranty claims will be a PITA.

1) within a year is an exaggeration, I've owned many throwaway chairs and worked at an office store for years. These chairs, while not meant to last for decades, are not THAT fragile
2) for $200 this is a pretty nice chair. Not everyone wants to or can afford to drop a grand, or spend weeks hunting in Facebook, for better chairs.
I personally have invested in nicer chairs and wouldn't buy these nowadays, but this kind of misinformation snobbery is not helpful.

Add me to the Serta no peel club. I was spending about 12-14 hours a day in mine and it lasted 6 years before the lift went wonky. Arms went flat, tilt was creaky, but zero flaking. They replaced it under extended warranty, and the next went 5 years with roughly the same issues, but still no peel.

Bonded leather will tear up. Ask me how I know. If you can afford it or find a deal for real leather, that is the way to go.

spot on! I've owned many 200$ Costco/Staples chairs and never any peeled. I suppose in a warehouse environment, they would but not in a home office. I too now own gesture and embody but for no reason that I wanted them after many years.

I threw my Staples bonded leather chair in the dumpster yesterday. It lasted a few years before it started sloughing off flakes.
