I remember my first rewatch of this as an adult and realizing how dark it was that Phoebe Cates parents were killed before Christmas and it was mentioned rather flippantly, like she's past being orphaned already.

In the second movie she mentions her traumatizing experience with a man who looked like Abraham Lincoln. Her character has some issues.
