I took most of the bins out of mine and used them to store my sockets on the plastic HF socket rails.

Nice idea! Did you have to put packing in it to prevent the sockets from rattling off the rails or is it sufficiently tight?

I can't take credit for the idea. I think I saw that on reddit. They had put some wooden spacers in between the metal rails, which are stored on their sides, to keep them in position. Here was their setup:

I'm not doing any transport with mine, just using them to organize my 200(?) pc. Husky socket set in the garage so no problems with them coming off the rails but they fit snug. I used one organizer for metric and one for SAE.
