WD has 22TB Red Pro drives for 50 off, for 399.99 currently with an extra year warranty for free:
https://www.westerndigital.com/pr...=WD221KFGX

$18.13 per TB isn't the best price ever but the Red Pro drives have a great warranty and is a solid deal, especially since this includes an extra 1 year warranty so you are getting a full 6 year warranty for use in a NAS on these drives.

(I have no idea what I am doing, will gladly edit to be more proper if people tell me what to update)

Amazon has the same price but if you use their Visa card, you get a bonus 5% back so total 10% back. Not sure if that is worth the extra year of warranty so you can decide for yourself. Also, I don't know if Amazon's will have the extra year as they do not list the warranty at all!

Noise? I can handle the spin but not if it has a little man in there with a pickaxe.

Definitely on the quieter side, like the Golds. Compared to Ultrastars the idle is ever so slightly louder but is more quiet when actively being used.

Could probably use a credit card that doubles the warranty, right?

WD site shows extra 1 year is site specific only, the 24tb X2 sale is better deal imo extra $25 for an extra 2tb and also get 1 year, also 5% cashback out there

The new AI and tariff pricing, it seems. The regular price of the 20 TB used to be $300 (sales prices even less), and 6 months ago the 22TB were $375 (if not $350). I'm ready for the AI bubble to burst but it probably still has room to inflate further before that happens.

Newegg sold through Walmart portal offers 15% cb from a cap one. Not sure if there are draw backs doing it this way.

I used to have a WD Red failed 3 days after warranty expired. CS casually sent me free recovery program and some random referrals to data recovery services.

Go all the way, get the 26! Go to the WD site, you can choose the size, and if you choose the 26's, the price is $519.99. BUT, there is an offer in green that says, "LIMITED TIME: Buy 2 24TB drives for $849.98." By my calculations, that's $424.99 each, $25 more per drive. Don't you use them 2 or 4 at a time (the deal says up to 10 drives, 5 bundles). The page still mentioned the extra year; not sure if I clicked on that offer, it would still be there. Hurts too much; my 4*12's are still pretty empty (shows 32.7TB free), so I'm not going to replace or augment them. Guess I'll be replacing them with 50's in a few years.

FYI, presently these drives are unsupported in 2025 model Synology appliances. You can't create a raid array with anything other than Synology branded devices. They are supposed to revert this change as it has caused immense backlash but the new FW isn't out yet. There is a script floating around that can make the drives "officially supported"

Older appliances don't have this issue.
