People, do not waste your money on these things. Vitamin C is not fat soluble. That means your body does not store it. It will use whatever it needs at that point in time and then the rest will end up in your urine. If you have money burning a hole in your pocket, I can give you my paypal or something and you can give it to me.

Can vitamin C prevent colds or shorten the duration of colds?

The idea that vitamin C can prevent colds became popular in the 1970s, but research has largely debunked this myth. While taking vitamin C regularly doesn't appear to reduce the chances of catching a cold, some evidence suggests it might slightly shorten the duration of a cold or lessen the severity of cold symptoms.

For most people, maintaining a balanced diet with adequate vitamin C is sufficient to keep the immune system healthy without taking high-dose supplements.

I fail to understand your reasoning. So if your body does happen to need it even if occasionally, it's better that your body has none?I don't take V C regularly, but when my schedule gets hectic such as when traveling, I take it as it's often difficult to get enough bit c.

Interesting.
It's kind of a circular argument. Yes, if you don't need a supplement you don't need it. But it doesn't address if you happen to need it. Btw: the half-life of vitamin c in the blood stream is only around 2-4 hours. So a morning glass of fresh OJ won't help on a 11pm flight.

Yes if anything the benefits only come if you take VitC routinely, not JUST when you get sick, which is hat most people do.

Unless your doctor has told you that you have a chronic VitC deficiency, you're probably getting plenty just through the food you're eating. If you're concerned about it, keep some dried fruit in your carry-on when traveling. There's something about the act of chewing that primes your digestive system for better nutrient absorption compared to just swallowing a supplement. You just have to be careful if you're diabetic because drying out fruit tends to concentrate the sugars.

The number of people who actually need some kind of supplement is very far and few between. So, unless you are routinely developing scurvy, you don't need to worry about your VitC levels.
