Woot have restocked their Microsoft 365 subscriptions, including 12 and 15 month Personal and 12 month family. In addition, for 9/22 only if you use the app you can get an additional 10% off. Terms & Conditions for the App deal here [woot.com], in short max discount per order is $20, so make separate orders if your cart value exceeds $200.

You can reach the deals in the app by simply selecting Computers then Software.

12 Month Personal $50.99 (pre app discount, $45.89 using app on 9/22) Limit 10!
15 Month Personal $68.99 (pre app discount, $62.09 using app on 9/22) Limit 5
12 Month Family $89.99 (pre app discount, $80.99 using app on 9/22) Limit 5

If you're interested in stacking Personal (max 5 years) and converting to family, here is my experience with doing so last week.
  • The consensus is 5 years is the maximum subscription length you can stack, so I stacked 60 months of Personal.
  • Upon redeeming each 15 month code, I was offered an additional 1 month (I think this is because they were 15 month codes, I was expecting to be offered 3 months) for turning on autorenewal. I declined each time as I was worried this would put me at 61 months and prevent me from adding the family code.
  • I do not think that if I accepted the first free month, then turned off autorenewal before adding a second code that any additional free months would be offered, but who knows.
  • Once I stacked 5 years of Personal and was good through September 2030, I then redeemed the 12 month family. On redeeming this, I was offered an additional 3 months for turning on autorenewal. Initially it seemed like it was going to give me until December 2031, but on the next screen it acknowledged that the key was for a family subscription and said that if I added the code, it would convert my existing subscription to family and the personal sub would be prorated (but didn't tell me what the % was). The revised expiry date was December 2030, so presumably 80%?
The 12 month offers the better per month cost, so will likely sell out quicker. If you're looking to do the conversion buy 5 of these (in 2 orders of 3x and 2x if utilizing the app discount), decline auto renew each time, then redeem your 12 month family and accept free 3 months for turning on auto renew. You should end up good through December 2030 with a cost per user per month of $0.82.

Whenever I add a year of family, I turn on auto-renew for 1 free month. After redemption, I turn off auto-renew immediately.

When I add another year of Family, I have always been offered another free month if I turn on auto-renew, which I do, get the free month after redemption, and then immediately turn off auto-renew.

Rinse and repeat.

i have a question for the experts. I personally just use the standalone version, but a friend has an account on a Family sub. Can they just buy the 15 personal sub and redeem, and it would ask me to convert at each per>fam sub?

I'll try to help but you need to clear up what you are asking. "and it would ask me to convert at each per>fam sub?" is confusing.

Good to know, but are you adding several new 12 month subs at a time (like most people doing the conversion), or are you simply extendinga subscription at the end of the current 12 mo nths?

family subscription
if they bought 4 or 5 15month personal codes,
can they apply them to the existing Family sub?
if so, does it ask each time if they want to convert from personal subscription(sub) to family sub?

thanks for the help!

Apparently not. This is what Copilot says:
Quote :
🧍 ♂️ If you (a user on the Family plan) add a 12-month Personal code:
Your account gets upgraded to Microsoft 365 Personal, separate from the Family plan.
You will no longer be part of the Family plan—your subscription becomes independent.
You'll retain all your files, settings, and OneDrive storage, but:
You'll only get 1 TB of OneDrive (instead of shared Family storage).
You can't share your subscription with others.
If your Personal subscription expires and the Family plan is still active, you can rejoin the Family plan if invited again.
If the owner of the Family plan adds a 12-month Personal code:
The Family plan owner's account becomes Microsoft 365 Personal, and:
The Family plan is canceled.
All invited members (like you) lose access to the shared subscription.
Each member would need to get their own subscription or be invited to a new Family plan.
That said, as we all know, AI can often be wrong, so I searched for real life cases of people trying to do this. Unfortunately the best answers were 5+ years old. Check the top comment in this reddit thread [reddit.com]for a very thorough response, hopefully still accurate.

Whatever you do, Microsoft's system will make it very clear what the impact of adding the code will be before asking you for confirmation you want to do it, and say if you don't want that to happen then you should hold on to the code and let the current system expire.

What is your friend's long term goal here? Leave the plan and have his own sub, or try and extend the family plan as cheaply as possible?4

I already have MS 365 Personal subscription and use their cloud drive to save pics and videos. It is coming up for renewal and they are asking for $99.
If I buy the 15month subscription and, can I extend the current subscription?

Conversion data point:
  • The initial 12-month personal gave 13 months with auto-renew, which was probably mandatory.
  • The next 12-month personal added 12 months and required setting up auto-renew (I had canceled it), although it did say you could contact support to redeem without a payment method.
  • The same for the 12-month family, but the existing subscription was first reduced by a factor of 10/12 = 83.3%.

Not sure if you missed a word or two where I've bolded, but if you buy the 15 month personal and add it to your account, then yes, it adds an additional 15 months to your subscription, which will push your renewal date. The exception to this is if your current subscription is managed by Amazon or another 3rd party, in which case you will have to make sure you've turned off auto renew on that subscription, then wait for it to expire. Once expired you can then reactive with a code like these. Don't worry about going in to an expired state, your photos and data aren't permanently deleted for 4 months.

Interesting, and thanks for providing. There was an absence of recent data points since the price increase/copilot integration that happened in March, so I tried to document my experience as best I could so new info was out there, but I can only personally fund one research experiment!

It sounds like the way to go is decline the autorenewal bonus until adding the 12 month family, since that offered me 3 free months (though this was on 5 years of stacked personal, not sure whether you also stacked 5 years or just two).

Worked...had the keys within 24hrs. They were in the app under the order purchase.

Also had a 10% woot offer on a Freedom card which should take off another 10%. I doubt I'll beat $40/yr for personal.
