these things break so fast, even from new. it has to make sense to buy insurance if you'll do all that.

Definitely a legit route for many people, but I've looked, still some fakes, lots of broken ones with no way to test in a parking lot, and the new ones are usually a $50 or more. I see dirty used regular ones listed for $60. This at least comes with the backup of being able to return it and I don't have to go out of my way. If I spend an hour to meet someone up and end up getting a broken one I might as well have just gotten a new one at full price. Honestly the time it takes alone makes most of them not worth it for me personally

Or this one: https://offerup.com/item/detail/2...dd5c79d001 . $65 for a used one! That's the price of a new one with a 1 year warranty including tax that I can get when I do my regular shopping. When I had free time I could do stuff like this, I used to buy broken tech and fix it up as a hobby, but I'm no longer willing to put my free time into that. Now I'd rather pay and play some games with the kids

Yeah if you look at amazon reviews from this seller, many people are just getting fakes. There's no way this seller, even though woot, has this many legit oem dualshocks available. It's almost all fakes on Amazon.

I still have the one I've had pretty much since launch that still works, with only the rubber on the analog sticks peeling from wear and tear. The Blue DS4 I've had for 9 years at this point also still works perfectly fine. The only one that stopped working was my Grey anniversary DS4, but that just needs a new battery.So I don't know man, stop throwing your controllers against the wall.
