Instead of one 4TB, I'm inclined to get two 2TB of these. I figure the fifty additional bucks are insurance against one of them failing.

I'd love to hear other perspectives.

You will have, then to haul with you two drives all the time you'll need your files. Perhaps making regular backups to a larger HD, or/and NAS would be a better idea.

Proper 3-2-1 backup stratrgy is safer and less hassle. I only carry two 4TB drives because 8TB is insanely expensive thanks to AI Wars.

As soon as 8TB hits $450 I'm probably retiring them. Bought at the bottom for $179 each.

Depends on if you plan to use USB4 / Thunderbolt. 40Gbps would require an enclosure or more expensive unit.
