I'm looking for a 16"-17" laptop, comments on this one or is there a better deal? Should I wait for Black Friday deals? My 5 year old MSI has a broken hinge, so I can't close it for fear of it breaking completely.

If you're willing to go refurbished, this is only $636. 4050, so not as good, but decent for the price. There might be a Klarna coupon floating around still for another $50 off?

It really depends on how much you're looking to spend. For example: Walmart also has the HP Omen 16 on sale, $849 for the 5050 model with Intel Ultra 5 225H and 16gb of RAM or $1099 for the 5060 model with Intel Ultra 7 255H. If you have a Micro Center near you the HP Victus 15 with Ryzen 7 350 and 5060 is on sale for $800. Best Buy has some pretty good Open Box deals and if you can find a deal from a company store or refurb seller on eBay you can score a good deal.
Personally, I would avoid 4050 laptops since the vram will be a limiting factor. The 5050 and 5060 both have 8gb of vram this generation (4050 only has 6) and the 5050 is anywhere from 18% to 21% faster than the 4050 according to testing from Jarrod'sTech (video published 09/19/25).

This is so much worse. 4050 is much weaker, only 6gb vram, and acer (especially nitro line) is known for having bad build quality and... broken hinge! I wouldn't touch an Acer or MSI. 4050 has been lower before for new condition from other brands.

Yeah I agree, just saying that's what going down a pricepoint gets you at least in the big screen category (15.6 seem to always be cheapest). For a casual gamer it's fine, though I hear you about the hinges. Seems to be the death point of most laptops, which is so stupid.

I would pay the extra 200~ for the Legion pro 5i from Lenovo with a 5060 in it and OLED. Much better laptop imo.
if a 4050 is all you can afford I guess that works too. LOL
I could probably afford more than you, especially after covid since my RE portfolio grew. But I am not insecure with myself that I need to name myself big baller. You probably use food stamps.

RTX 4050 is fine. And the MS Office 2024 keys are fine. You are just sad.
