Yeah because they can. Nobody will want to make less for the same effort. Plus they usually have a recipe of what they're willing to install and not go outside of that with other equipment. Or it gets blurry when it comes to warranty. Solar is not rocket science for anyone who wants to learn. It's all just wire gauges, wire runs, mounting, and a little bit of easy math.

bought this exact system. batteries were delivered first. still waiting for the inverter and solar. took about an hour to make the rack and another hour to install the batteries. everything so far works great. I'm using it to provide enough electricity for my two EVs. it should cover both of our daily commutes. very good bang for your buck and it's expandable as batteries get even cheaper over time.
I found a solution for you.Get a refund from the DOR in FL.Provide the receipt and residency and submit this form:Use Form DR-11 ("Application for Refund") or DR-13 ("Claim for Refund or Credit").
Don't waste your time trying to get your sales tax back from the department of revenue. I tried doing this for a solar purchase and it took 5 months for someone to respond. Despite have all receipts and paperwork and filling out their stupid form, they denied my request and said that I needed additional paperwork. Complete bureaucratic BS

so just to give every an idea looking to buy this. I just bought a 12kw hybrid inverter, 2x10 kwh battery, 10x540watt bifacial panels that alone cost is 7100 with tax. All are ul listed. If installing with a permit you might get away without the the UL Listing for off grid. Not many electrician want to install a system like this. you may find a journeyman looking for some money might do it.

I googled ebay tax exempt purchases and sent an email requesting a tax exempt account. I had to send the state of Florida form showing exemption for solar purchases. They told me to use my regular account and send them an email at the end of the month with all my tax exempt purchases on a spreadsheet. They then refunded the tax in a few days.
Mostly DIY. The internet can't help you here. Call some contractors and ask them for estimates.
This is where I am getting confused, all the people tying these into their breakers are say you need to pull a permit and be licensed. I have run my own circutis before, but I assume you can't DIY tying into your main as you will get caught.

it's not sales tax credit. it's an energy credit that your tax guy will apply when you file your taxes. Based on your taxable income, you may or maybe can't use it all in one year. It does carry over each year until you've used it all but you have to carry it forward on that energy credit form. something like a 5695
