Note that you can only have 2 XR sync modules using XR mode per account. I bought a 3rd XR sync module and tried to add more cameras on XR and it didn't work. Only Regular non-XR mode works. Was super frustrated trying to set it up, then read the Blink FAQ. Bummer.

it seems that best buy has the XR with 2 cameras for $70. I'm thinking of getting this and returning the 4 to get just the XR module for $27ish

Wow, Amazon's Blink products are confusing.

So it looks like this is an upgraded sync module, with the Outdoor 4 camera that's been on the market for a while now.

Previously they had the more square sync module 1 (black) and sync module 2 (white around the edges). Now it looks like they've phased those out, and instead they offer the more rounded Sync Module Core (like the 2 but no local storage) and Sync Module XR (extended range).

Do I have that right?

Seems like the 2-camera system for $70 is a good deal if you need the extra range.

So we can buy 4 pack and return cameras and keep XR module at discount price?

You are correct. The Blink Outdoor 4 Camera has been out for 2 years now. It was released with the Sync Module 2 which has a usb port for recording your video clips (no need for the paid cloud storage). The Blink Outdoor 4 Camera now comes with the Sync Module Core which does not allow you to record your video clips (paid cloud storage only). There is also the Blink Outdoor 4 Camera with the Sync Module XR (extended range and SD slot for recording your video clips).

I have not had the best luck with Blink cameras. Not real sure why. I have 4 cameras and have tried 2 sync 2 modules. On both modules, the local storage quit working. One after a few months, the 2nd after about 3 weeks. I can stand in front of the cameras sometimes doing jumping jacks and no motion detection. The same camera later sends out constant alerts later on every time a leaf blows in front of it. They're not consistent at all. I finally turned off alerts and placed them in areas I don't monitor closely and just check in from time to time. I switched over to Ring cameras a couple of years ago inside and out and couldn't be happier.

I've found motion detection to be fairly reliable, but it does miss sometimes. It also lags compared to a wired power cam. But the form factor is small/discreet, and the batteries last a long time, even in a fairly high-traffic area. The lack of a web portal is annoying.

Please do yourself a favor and avoid Blink cameras! Everything about them is disappointing — the quality is poor, and they're practically useless without a subscription. (We just received an email saying they're raising the subscription price by another $20.)

Their support is terrible — they usually respond from overseas with little experience, and they don't even own or seem familiar with Blink products, so they have no real idea what they're dealing with.

Right now, they're facing a lot of issues with their devices, especially the floodlight camera, which has had problems for over four months with no solution. The only response you'll get is, "We are aware and working very hard to resolve it."

The cameras themselves are very low quality: they overheat, freeze, and have extremely glitchy software and apps. Don't rely on them if you want clear video — the image quality is poor, and it's almost impossible to read license plates.

And don't be fooled by their claim that the battery lasts two years — that's only possible if you keep the settings on very low video quality and basically if the camera isn't actively using motion detection.

Please just be aware of all this and make sure you check the return policy before buying.

FYI - I got one of these and it really does reach farther. Finally I am able to reach places that the original one did not. Now I can add more cameras.
