It operates on 3 D-cell batteries. It's top heavy. You can get AA to D battery adapter if using AA batteries.
According to product info: expect 1 year of light for each set of batteries with 8-10 activations a day. The claim is a bit far stretch.
Wouldn't want to mount too high where's inconvenient to change batteries.
