Way too much traffic, too many Bay Area/SF pretentious wine snobs and tastings ranging from$30 to $150. each person with most requiring reservations. Other then wineries, Napa is not much of a destination. Visit Amador and El Dorado counties where some of the best wines come from, especially reds. Clarksburg are is great for white wines. Most of these smaller wineries have the owner or winemaker there and many offer free tastings..as in no limit. Real people.

I stayed here a few months ago. The hotel itself is decent but it is a little further away from where you want to be in Napa. This price is good but I wouldn't call it great. I think I paid less than 300 per night, probably 260 to 300, and that's during summer.

Napa local here. It's harvest season, so you will only see grapes on the vines for the next month. All there is to do here is drink wine and eat food, as a tourist. There's good spots for those. An hour or more away from SFO/Sacramento area for more city activities.

If you are into wine tasting get the Priority Wine Pass from Groupon. Lots of B1G1 free wine tastings. I usually go to Napa or central coast, never been to Amador county, will have to check it out!

instead - go to Healdsburg, Geyserville in Sonoma County for your wine tasting needs. Much cheaper and better wine IMO. You can go to Catelli's a great new Italian style restaurant or check out some of the boutique shopping in downtown Healdsburg. Less crowds than Napa also.

+1 on Amador. Some of the best Zinfandels I tasted there.

Going to visit California soon. Can you recommend some tasting places and restaurants in Amador and El Dorado countries? Thanks

Some of my favorite wineries in Amador County: Sobon, Cooper Vinyards, Story, Bella Grace, Scott Harvey, Rombauer. Wineries in El Dorado: Lava Cap, Hart to Hart, Toogood Estate, Miraflores. Dining: Poor Reds, Volcano Union Pub and Inn (great place for an overnight), Cavanas Pub & Grub in Sutter Creek and probably 6-8 wine tasting places in town, Sweetie Pies in Placerville for breakfast or lunch, Hotel Sutter in Sutter Creek. Oct-Nov are great months with fall colors, rolling foothills, sunny and warm, no crowds, Have fun.
