Kinda unnecessary if you have a kettle starter or a torch. But good for lazy days, as long as you wait until they're completely burned before you add the food.

I had two bags of badly burning charcoal, finished first by using it to start the fire, but gave up on the second when I got good charcoal. In retrospect, this deal is an upgrade with a caveat.

These don't burn easily. I had to actually put some firestarter underneath these charcoals to help it burn.

These are also great to use if you dutch oven cook as they light off the existing coals by placing them on top instead of having to fire up your chimney again.
