Tips for new Seesii mini-chainsaw owners.

1. Batteries. Makita 18V batteries will work directly on Seesii chainsaws. If you're a Dewalt user like me, you can use DeWalt 20V batteries by adding a DeWalt-to-Makita battery adapter. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BQR8R2JC

2. Oil. The mini-chainsaw is a low demand lubrication use and almost any oil will do for oiling the chain (cooking oil, used engine oil, transmission oil, WD40). My recommendation is to use the cheapest bar & chain oil that you can find at your local hardware store. Again, because this is a low demand lubrication use, you can lubricate the chain sparingly - you can run the saw until the chain is almost dry. Typically, I can get by with lubricating the saw at the start and then again upon finishing small jobs.

3. Chain tension. The most common mistake is that people attempt to tighten the chain by manually forcing the bar tight and then tightening the retaining nut down. That won't work. You need to (1) loosen the retaining nut until the bar is ever so slightly loose, (2) turn the adjusting screw clockwise to tighten the chain or counterclockwise to loosen the chain, (3) re-tighten the retaining nut. DO NOT SKIP STEPS!

4. Periodically (at least once every other session), open up the chain cover and clean the sprocket area. Cuttings tend to accumulate in the back pocket, especially if you happen to be cutting a lot of green wood.

5. Replacement chains. I own the model advertised here, the 6" Seesii mini-chainsaw, Model CH500/550+. It uses the following chain: 6" chain, .043" Gauge, 1/4" LP Pitch, 36 Drive Links. (Be especially careful to check the number of drive links on your order, many of the replacement chains are spec'd out with 37 drive links. That won't fit this Seesii model.) https://www.amazon.com/Seesii-Cha...MBPT5?th=1

6. Chain sharpening. The 2.5mm round and 2.5mm triangular files included in the Seesii kit are EXTREMELY POOR QUALITY. Do yourself a favor and buy new ones at your local hardware store (or Amazon) to avoid the frustration of trying to sharpen your chain using inferior files. And if you've never sharpened chains before, check the price on replacement chains … they are reasonably cheap, cheap enough for you to think about treating them as disposable. A new set of chains will probably cost you less than the cost of the files.

7. Common sense reminder. Always remove the batteries before adjusting/replacing/sharpening your chains.

I used mine to cut down a bunch of small trees and get giants limbs into manageable sizes, this thing works surprisingly well!

I got one a while back for around $24, and it works great for what it is, with a surprising amount of torque. If you plan on using it a lot, make sure you have some bar oil and get some extra chains (on Amazon for around 5 for $10). I have been using it to nibble pieces off stumps in the middle of a trail, where they are partially rotten, but have hard cores filled with pine sap. I dig out a little dirt from around the stump, and cut through the hard bits with the saw until I get everything above ground level cut away. It is great not to have to obsess about getting your chain down in the dirt, since the chains are basically disposable (though the kit I got came with a file and some instructions, I find the prospect of sharpening chains to be a bit much, myself). ☺

I have little experience with chain saws, myself. But, my brother used to work at a repair shop that did a little of everything. He said sharpening chains were one of the most time consuming of all the things he did. And they had the equipment to do it.

I picked one up last week for $22 and finally gave it a try. Ended up cutting a few 5" trunks, and honestly, it handled them way better than I expected—cut through like butter. Battery was still going strong afterward, and the whole job felt pretty effortless.

For $22, I'm not expecting it to last like a big-name brand, but if it helps me take down 30 trunks over its lifetime, that's a win in my book.

Now it's down to $19?? That's just nuts. Grabbed two more—one for my dad and one for my brother.

It's worth it. I bought this a couple of years ago, and it still works fine. I've done a ton of tree branch trimming where loppers were too small.

Ordered it! I was watching the prices on these little chainsaws for a while now, but having 2 batteries seems like a plus even if the working time isn't as advertised, I have a few small trees and branches at ground level that I want to cut back
