I just tested this in Redesign and it seems to be working as expected for me. So that we can keep looking into this, can you please clarify - are you using Classic or Redesign, and which view of the frontpage do you use (large grid, small grid, list, simple)?

In redesign small and large grid views. Classic lets me control click, but not on the images. Only on links. Control click still works in the forums as usual. Firefox on Windows.
