So regarding the aspect ratio, it appears that the 16:9 actually crops in part of the scene that wasn't in the original show but was on the original film ( as in, they cropped it out to make it fit tube TVs)
So. If you are a fan of the show and like 16:9 I think the Blu-ray is a valid way to watch it, you lose a bit of the top and bottom but gain a little bit of the left and right. Note, it does drop a bit more of the bottom then you gain on the sides so that could make some scenes a bit off but hopefully whoever did the cropping used good judgment.
The 4K scan this is using preserves the original 4:3 television series so is a pretty pure to original experience, scanned in modern resolutions off of the master.
The DVDs are still around so it might be worth checking those out if you dont feel like spending this much.
