If you sign up and use the first time buyer 10% off code at outboundpower.com, it brings the price down to $809.10. Also, military and first responders can use GovX to get a 10% off code. They have free shipping, 30 day free returns, and are an authorized dealer for all brands they sell. They do charge tax based on your state.

I think one scenario that would work (provided you indeed leave the portable unit behind) is to install a transfer switch (permiited/to code) and have this wired in to the input to a 'critical loads' panel. This would represent an upgrade (home improvement) to make the home more energy resilient to outages, while retaining the occasional portable use for camping, etc.

If you plug it into the wall outlet and leave it for the next guy it's installed. 😂

My CPA says 'installed' means a home improvement, that conveys to the next owner. That is what the credit is supposed to offset, home energy improvements.
that pretty much says it all. a clear NO it does not qualify.

I definitely had full intentions of doing just this when I filled out the form.

Most of these power stations have idle around 35w

The real question is what counts as installed.
The law as written states put in service. And there is no electrician installation requirement or permitting required. Or integration with power generation like solar

That's pretty typical for a 3600 watt AC inverter. If you want to use it as a UPS, get one that handles the load you need

Go to outboundpower.com and click on "Today's Deals" at the top of the page. Then click on "Military & First Responder Discount" from the drop down menu. It explains how to get the 10% off code using verification from GovX. They use GovX verification, not the GovX website. Here's the web address to outbound's page that explains the details (https://outboundpower.com/pages/g...e-discount). If the link does not load correctly, follow the instructions above and it should work. Also, you can sign up for first time buyer to get the 10% off. Hope that helps!

I'd imagine you could possibly do it, by using different interpretations or definitions of 'what is permanent', but in the end, you're just trying to be sneaky about it, trying to find a loophole, if you just intend to take it with you if you move.

I now recall a portion of our convo, the re-reading of the 'Qualifications' segment reminded me:
"that is installed in connection with your home located in the United States and has a capacity of at least 3 kilowatt hours." That was his justification for having the device 'connected' to the home. He said simply plugging in a device/appliance like a blender doesn't make it 'installed in connection' to the home, and the intent is to upgrade the home to receive said credits. He's the dude who would rep me during an audit, so I choose to do what he says..lol.

I think it won't 'plugging it in for the next guy' will fly, but I think setting up a panel interlock, a transfer switch to a critical panels load, with this unit plugged into a standard 'generator' input L14-50 would make the whole assembly (labor and materials) qualify.

Well good luck. I think a permanent installation is exactly how it sounds. Something that stays with the home permanently. So if you moved to a new home, it would stay. You being able to just unplug it and take it with you when you leave goes against the literal definition of a "permanent installation". But good luck. Loopholes do exist.
