As I understand it, these are pretty good. Hard to beat quartz for time keeping, and they're pretty rugged for $40.

I tried that. They resuscitate for a while but then stop again if not continuously exposed to light.

The rechargeable batteries are changeable and like all rechargeable batteries will eventually fail. Fortunately most solar charged watches perform for a good 10yrs or more.

But when the solar mechanism does eventually crap out you have a workless lump of crap in a drawer. You can keep on replacing batteries into perpetuity.

That's BS. I've had 10+ Casio tough solar watches, spanning about a decade and never any problems. To have 3 or 4 and they all "crap out" is astronomically rare or you're full of it.

And even if a solar watch battery fails (which almost never happens), it can be replaced.

you can replace the capacitor in them (it's really just a battery). Also try leaving it in sunlight but pull out the crown so it doesn't try to run while charging.

And by the way , I took the seiko to a watch repairman and he said it was $100 to replace the solar capacitor. Still BS?
