The instructor is likely directing you toward something with weighted keys to feel like an analog piano, which this has. Roland's FP10 is the one that's usually more directly compared to the P45/P71 (same piano, P71 is the Amazon model), and the FP30X is a step above that. Better speakers, more and higher quality voices/tones, support for a 3 pedal add-on. The FP30X is more comparable to Yamaha's next step up P125.

Biggest difference is going to be the feel of the hammer action, and that's entirely personal preference. That's why it's recommended to try some different options in a store before buying. Without taking that into consideration, the FP30X is a strictly better piano on paper than the P45, but if your kid would end up preferring the Yamaha action then that would be the better choice.

SEPT2526 still works. They don't let you enter it until the last step when you enter your payment details before placing the order.

How is this compared to yamaha p71?

My kid started piano classes and instructor asked p71 or similar for home practice.

After "upgrading" from a 2006-era Yamaha YPG-625 to a Yamaha P-45, I am overall happy but a bit disappointed in the sound engine on it. The tone just doesn't sound even close to as good as the YPG-625 unfortunately, although I love the action on it. How does action on a weighted keys Roland compared to these Yamaha keyboards?
