Here's a bit about this deal...
The Pros:
- The price is fair. I'd have a hard time suggesting an equal machine for the same price, given you're getting a nice 13.3" 16:10 2560x1600 resolution "retinal" screen, decent keyboard (some aren't a fan, but there are plenty worse), and one of apple's best-in-industry trackpads.
- ....um, that's actually it.
The Cons: (where do I begin?)
- This is Woot, an Amazon company. Their first-party refurbished is a spit n' shine -- with more spit than shine. (I've gotten DOA refurb Echos and refurb Kindles with ~30-45mins of battery life.) THIS product however is a "Scratch n' Dent", which means it's probably obliterated.
- They claim they're in "working" condition, which....let's face it, has enough leeway, you might fit an ocean liner within that statement.
- Meager 90-day warranty (unlike most ebay refurbishment auctions, which provide a 1-year "All States" warranty). You have precious little time to ensure everything is in working order (or if it's about to fall apart).
- It's a 5 year old machine. Be prepared for a well-worn battery (or one that's about to start swelling, if it hasn't already). As I just said, be prepared for just about anything to fail. And since EVERYTHING is soldered onto the mainboard, you can't replace a thing. One tiny part goes, it's ewaste.
- 8gb of ram. How do the kids say nowadays...."major yikes"? That was really bad....back in 2015. It's laughable now. Be prepared to hit the swap storage (aka your non-replaceable SSD) like it owes you money.
- 256gb storage. That's acceptable for the simplest of use cases (and it's not great). Just because new machines today are sold with that as the base storage doesn't make it "good" by any means.
For $340, you'd probably have a hard time getting more for the same price, let alone more for less. But if you can pony up a few more dollerydoos ($800 total -- maybe even less for Black Friday), you can get an entry-level M4 Macbook Air. This gets you double the ram (16gb), 256gb storage (meh.), and a BRAND NEW machine with a one-year Apple warranty, with the option to enroll in a 3-year AppleCares or ongoing monthly AppleCares warranty. And oh, the M4 totally smokes the M1, as it should since it's ~4 years newer.

Bottom Line: Pass on this deal.
Mostly agree with this, though of note Apple was still selling the M1 Macbook Air new through 2024. So these are unlikely to be 4+ years old, more likely these are the last ones sold new, that got returned or warranty work done on them.

Not to be negative, but there's absolutely zero guarantee of that. None whatsoever. And if they were, I'd argue they wouldn't be sold as "scratch n' dent".
